Jockeys do battle in title race

Richard Hughes rode a treble at Salisbury to reduce Paul Hanagan's lead in the jockeys' title race to 10.

The Irishman scored on favourites Chain Lightning and Big Issue for trainer Richard Hannon before riding Rae Guest's 13-2 shot Mirza to victory.

Long-time championship leader Hanagan drew a blank at Nottingham to leave him on 161 winners, with Hughes on 151.

Bookmakers reacted by cutting Hughes from about 5-2 to 11-8 to claim the title in November.
