Dwyer won the Epsom Oaks on Casual Look in 2003

Epsom Derby-winning jockey Martin Dwyer has broken his elbow and thumb after a nasty fall at Leicester on Monday when his mount Red Lite unseated him.

Dwyer, who won the Classic in 2006 on Sir Percy, was thrown from the saddle when the filly swerved to the left.

The 35-year-old was due to ride Classic hope Theyskens' Theory in the Fillies' Mile at Ascot on Saturday.

Trainer Brian Meehan has snapped up champion jockey Ryan Moore to replace Dwyer in the race.

Berkshire-based Dwyer, who was born in Aintree, Merseyside, stayed overnight in Leicester Royal Infirmary, where subsequent X-rays revealed the breaks. He is expected to be out of action for several weeks.

His father-in-law, trainer William Muir, said: "He's got bad bruising as well as the two breaks.

"It could well be he will have to have a couple of operations to pin both the elbow and the thumb," added Muir.

"When they took the neck-collar off he was in real pain, but the hospital went through some scans and found nothing, which is a huge relief.

"He's very upset - he had some decent rides this weekend - but it could have been a lot worse."
