Starspangledbanner held off Equiano to win at Newmarket |
Johnny Murtagh has decided not to appeal against the six-day suspension he picked up aboard Starspangledbanner in last Friday's July Cup at Newmarket. The Irishman will miss the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on 24 July and the first two days of Glorious Goodwood. He will miss rides on the likes of Cape Blanco at Ascot and Rip Van Winkle, among others, at Goodwood. Murtagh's agent Eddie Byrne said the rider had no further comment to make. Murtagh was given the ban, which runs from 23 to 28 July inclusive after being found guilty of careless riding by the Newmarket stewards. He slightly missed the kick on the Golden Jubilee winner and moved over to his left to the far rail, a manoeuvre which the officials were unhappy with.
