Dettori edged out Tom Queally and Ryan Moore to ride Fleeting Spirit |
Frankie Dettori is set to ride Fleeting Spirit as the filly looks to defend her July Cup crown at Newmarket. Tom Queally, who partnered the five-year-old 12 months ago, was widely expected to be offered the role again. The daughter of Invincible Spirit finished fourth in June's Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Trainer Jeremy Noseda said on his website: "Fleeting Spirit will line up in the July Cup and Frankie Dettori will ride." He added: "She did her last piece of work this morning [Monday]. I was pleased with how it went and fingers crossed she comes out of it in good order. "Hopefully she moves forward from her first racecourse start and I hope there is no draw bias and we are drawn near the principal competition." The Newmarket-based trainer has been protecting Fleeting Spirit's fitness because of problems with the horses front ankle joints.
