Fallon suffered only severe bruising from the kick

Six-times British champion jockey Kieren Fallon returned to winning form at Newbury on Saturday after avoiding serious injury at the track on Friday.

Fallon was preparing to ride Mick Channon's Ayam Zainah in the Bridget Maiden Fillies' Stakes when another horse, Alioonagh, got loose and bolted.

Ayam Zainah became upset and lashed out, catching Fallon on his right leg.

But Fallon was passed fit to take his six booked rides on Saturday, winning on Forte Dei Marmi in the last.

He also claimed three third places including Lady Of The Desert in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes and the unraced Momkinzain in the Maiden Stakes.

Meanwhile, Dick Turpin outgunned wayward stablemate Canford Cliffs to provide Richard Hannon with a fourth Greenham Stakes success in the last 10 years.

However, the major beneficiary of the Group Three trial at Newbury was St Nicholas Abbey, who was trimmed across the boards at the head of the market for the 2,000 Guineas.

Canford Cliffs ended last season finishing in the shadows of Arcano and Special Duty in France and while he reversed form with the former, bookmakers lengthened his odds for the colts' Classic.

He is out to a general 10-1 after veering left across the track to be picked off by his stablemate and lose out by half a length.

Dick Turpin is also 12-1 with sponsors Stan James after his victory under Ryan Moore, with Hannon indicating the 8-1 winner is likely to be campaigned abroad in his Guineas quest.

The trainer said: "I think if Canford Cliffs hadn't run off a line he'd have probably won.

"He hung in France and has done so again today and I don't know why he does it as he is straight as an arrow at home.

"I'm very happy with the pair of them - they're both very good horses and have pulled well clear of the third."
