Mon Mome and Liam Treadwell on their way to winning the 2008 race |
The famous Grand National meeting at Aintree will be the first horse racing event to be screened in High Definition by the BBC. The three-day coverage includes the Grand National on Saturday 10 April. The race, which has been a British sporting institution since 1839, is the ultimate test of speed, strength and stamina over four-and-a-half miles. As well as broadcasting in HD, two new high-speed cameras will be used at The Chair and Becher's Brook. These cameras capture the action for high-speed replays as the horses make their way over the imposing fences. The vortex camera will also be in use, operating from ground level to 100ft with 360-degree rotation, showing the full spectacle of the field as they go past the Aintree grandstands.
