Ghanaati gave trainer Barry Hills his second 1,000 Guineas victory

Ghanaati, trained by Barry Hills and ridden by his son Richard, was a shock 20-1 winner in the 1,000 Guineas.

Jim Bolger's Cuis Ghaire (12-1) was second under KJ Manning in the fillies classic, one-and-a-half lengths behind.

Brian Meehan's Super Sleuth (33-1), saddled by Martin Dwyer, finished third, a length-and-a-quarter back.

Previously unbeaten favourite Rainbow View (8-11) ran a disappointing race for trainer John Gosden and was left trailing over the Rowley Mile.

Penny's Gift broke well at the start but was joined by Cuis Ghaire before Devotee went on, with Rainbow View not far off the pace in fifth.

Cuis Ghaire then made a bid for glory but she could not shake off the opposition.

Ghanaati always had her in sight, and Hills soon let her go to power up the hill and exert her authority.

Cuis Ghaire plugged on well while Super Sleuth came from way back to claim minor honours.

Rainbow View could not find top gear and finished just behind the placed horses.

A delighted Richard Hills said: "I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"It's good for my father as well, being his second winner of this race. He was very confident building up to the Guineas.

"Ghanaati's from a super family with horses like Nayef, and I rode her mother Sarayir. She's a filly who was always going to improve and she's got a lot of class."
