Well Armed eases to World Cup win

Well Armed put in a devastating burst of speed to win the £4.2m Dubai World Cup, the world's richest race.

Trained by Irish-born, United States-based Eoin Harty and ridden by Aaron Gryder, he led from start to finish to make up for finishing third last year.

Harty's father Eddie rode the Aintree Grand National winner Highland Wedding in 1969.

French runner Gloria de Campeao was second, 14 lengths further back, ahead of Paris Perfect.

The well-fancied Asiatic Boy, second last year, and Albertus Maximus both finished well out of contention.

Earlier, Eastern Anthem, trained by Mubarak bin Shafya, held off the challenge of British duo Spanish Moon from the Sir Michael Stoute stable and Purple Moon, trained by Luca Cumani in a photo finish to win the Sheema Classic.

606: DEBATE

Frankie Dettori led home a Godolphin one-two on Two Step Salsa in the Godolphin Mile.

The meeting was the final event at the Nad Al Sheba course, which will be demolished to make way for a $1.25bn racing complex.
