Numbersixvalverde enjoyed a famous victory over the Aintree fences |
The 2006 Grand National winner Numbersixvalverde has been retired from the sport after failing to overcome a long-term leg problem. The 13-year-old had not run since finishing sixth behind Silver Birch when defending his Aintree crown in April 2007. In addition to his Aintree win, he won the Irish Grand National in 2005. The decision to retire the 13-year-old was taken by trainer Martin Brassil and owner Bernard Carroll. The horse, who was ridden by Niall "Slippers" Madden to his Aintree success, was named after Carroll's holiday home in Portugal.
