Zarkava remains unbeaten following another fine showing |
Superstar filly Zarkava produced another impressive performance to win the French 1,000 Guineas at Longchamp. Regular jockey Christophe Soumillon steered the Aga Khan's filly to her fourth victory from as many starts. All the successes have been at Longchamp, but trainer Alain de Royer Dupre is now likely to aim Zarkava at next month's Royal Ascot meeting. Goldikova was runner-up, with Ireland's Halfway To Heaven running with credit in third place. Falco and jockey Olivier Peslier ran out comfortable winners to keep France's 2,000 Guineas at home. In a rough race, the 20-1 chance Falco, trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, stormed clear with a quarter of a mile to race for a stylish win. Frankie Dettori's mount Rio De La Plata, racing for Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin Stable, held on for second. Another British-trained contender River Proud, who looked troubled before the start, finished fast in third.
