Paul Nicholls is looking forward to seeing Denman and Kauto Star in action |
Somerset trainer Paul Nicholls says he is waiting to see how good Denman can be when he faces stable-mate Kauto Star at Cheltenham. The two horses go head-to-head in the Gold Cup on Friday 14 March with Kauto Star, who won last year, being tipped by many to take the title again.
"No-one knows how good he might be, we're going to know that in three weeks time," Nicholls told BBC Sport.
"He's progressed up the ranks and now he's got to knock Kauto off his perch."
Nicholls added: "He's got a very good chance but I've said to everybody all along that he [Kauto Star] will be very hard to beat.

"Denman is unbeaten in all eight chases, Kauto is virtually unbeaten, he's the reigning champ and is an incredibly good horse, it's going to be a really interesting race." Nicholls also explained how his two star horses came to live next to each other at his stables in Ditcheat.
"It is by accident, they just happened to end up there, they spent the summer together and we can't be changing that now," he said
