There was much confusion during the start of the 2007 Grand National
Peter Haynes has been replaced as the starter for the Grand National following last year's debacle. Haynes eventually started the race after an eight-minute delay and several attempts, prompting a chorus of jeers from the 70,000 crowd at Aintree.
"It was chaotic and looked shambolic," said BBC Radio 5 Live's racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght.
"There was a review and although Haynes was not directly blamed, it has been decided he will not start the race."
The responsibility for starting the Saturday 5 April showpiece will now fall upon deputy senior starter Sean McDonald.

Lysaght added: "At the time, Haynes and the British Horseracing Authority blamed the size of the field and the jockeys disobeying instructions. But it seems that Haynes has paid the penalty this year.
"Most times, it's essential the officials and sportspeople have a good relationship.
"You could say that Haynes' relationships with the jockeys was not as good and he may have paid the price for that."
Eight-time Champion Jockey Peter Scudamore said it was important for the new starter to form a good bond with the jockeys.
"It sounds like some of the jockeys lost confidence in Haynes," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
"The starter should be looking to get the horses away as quickly as possible, otherwise it gets harder with each subsequent attempt.
"It will be interesting to see how McDonald copes with it in April."
