Veteran broadcaster and journalist Sir Peter O'Sullevan is to be recognised for his contribution to horse racing at the 2008 Cheltenham Festival. For this year only, the oldest race at the meeting, the National Hunt Chase, will bear his name.
O'Sullevan, who will be 90 ahead of the Festival, was the BBC's horse racing commentator for 50 years.
"The voice of racing" hung up his microphone in 1997, the same year that he was knighted.
O'Sullevan has good reason to remember the race from his early days behind the microphone, and hopes it can again prove to be a form guide towards the Grand National at Aintree.

"The field, which was nearly always a big one, went round behind the stands during the contest," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"Maybe last year's winner [Butler's Cabin] will win the Grand National this year, that would give the event another great boost. I think he's got to have a good squeak at Aintree."
