Takeover Target was put through his paces on Tuesday morning |
Australian sprinter Takeover Target is reported to be in good form ahead of his assault on Royal Ascot next week. The eight-year-old won the King's Stand Stakes last year and was third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes four days later.
Trainer Joe Janiak believes the horse will now be better suited by the latter race, which at six furlongs is a furlong longer than the King's Stand.
"As he has got older, he has lost a bit of his early speed," said Janiak. "The Golden Jubilee will suit him better."
Takeover Target is one of four Australian-trained horses who have travelled to England to tackle the two sprints at the famous Berkshire meeting.
The others include Bentley Biscuit, who is trained by Gai Waterhouse, known as the first lady of Australian racing.
The quartet is completed by the Lee Freedman-trained Miss Andretti and Magnus, who comes from the stable of Peter Moody, who is making his first trip to Britain.
All four horses were put through their paces in a workout at Newmarket on Tuesday morning.
The Group Two King's Stand Stakes takes place on the opening day of Royal Ascot next Tuesday with the Group One Golden Jubilee Sprint featuring on the fifth and final day's racing on Saturday.
