Olivier Peslier triumphed again on Cockney Rebel |
Favourite Cockney Rebel completed a 2000 Guineas double by taking the Irish version on Saturday. The Geoff Huffer-trained horse is only the sixth to win both the Curragh and Newmarket classics.
French jockey Olivier Peslier, winning the race for a third time, saw off nearest challenger Creachadoir with He's A Decoy running well for third.
Aidan O'Brien's second favourite Duke of Marmalade was backed into 9-4 but could only manage fourth.
In prevailing by a length, Cockney Rebel became the first horse since Rock Of Gibraltar in 2002 to win both Guineas.
Vital Equine took the field along as he had done at Newmarket and Cockney Rebel briefly looked vulnerable a furlong out when Creachadoir loomed up on his outside.
But he showed his battling qualities to go away for another famous success.
Huffer said Cockney Rebel would next run at Royal Ascot
in the St James's Palace Stakes.
