Teofilo (r) won last season's Dewhurst Stakes |
Teofilo is all but certain to miss next month's Epsom Derby, according to his trainer Jim Bolger. The colt was the ante-post favourite for the 2,000 Guineas but was ruled out two days before last Saturday's race.
"It would be lovely to have Teofilo right in a few weeks but I don't think that is going to happen," the Irish trainer told the Racing Post.
"I don't think he will make the Derby," added Bolger, who won the 1,000 Guineas on Sunday with Finsceal Beo.
"I'd say we are looking at probably six weeks on the easy list and then we will assess the situation.
"The very best you could be looking at would be the King George (on 28 July).
"If there was any doubt about having him right for the King George then there would be the Champion Stakes at Leopardstown (on 8 September).
"We are pretty sure it's an over-reach problem and they can usually take anything up to three months.
"With the sort of treatment we can give him, we would hope to shorten that but we will not be taking any chances."
Despite the injury, there are no plans to keep Teofilo, who is owned by Bolger's wife Jackie, in training next year.
"He won't race beyond his three-year-old days," said Bolger.
