Shirocco won the Coronation Cup at Epsom |
Shirocco held off Ouija Board to win the Group One Coronation Cup at Epsom on Friday. The 8-11 favourite, ridden by Christophe Soumillon and trained by Andre Fabre, kicked two furlongs out and was too strong for Ouija Board.
Frankie Dettori's mare (11-4) tracked Fabre's colt but was edged out by almost two lengths.
Enforcer (66-1) got up for third ahead of the fading Ace, an 11-2 shot ridden by Kieren Fallon.
Shirocco, the Breeders' Cup Turf winner, took up the early running from the Derby start as Ed Dunlop's Ouija Board and the free-running Ace fell in behind.
Approaching the bend Ace, the Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up, took over the pace on the left rail and led the field down the hill into the straight.

Dettori and Ouija Board posed a brief threat but the five-year-old Shirocco had the class and stamina to see off the competition.
Soumillon, who will be on ante-post favourite Visindar in Saturday's Derby, told BBC Sport: "Today is a great day for me, for the horse, for the team and it's good for tomorrow to ride a big-race winner today.
"There is a another one coming tomorrow. It's a big weekend and it's good to start like this."
Fabre said: "He has fantastic ability and is a wonderful athlete, with all the qualities you expect from a thoroughbred.
"I am very pleased, especially to win this race for the owner."
Dunlop admitted the French horse looked very good in the paddock and was pride of the way his globe-trotting mare competed.
"She has been beaten by probably one of the best horses in the world and I am thrilled with her," said Dunlop.
"I would like to take her to Royal Ascot and I will have to try and convince the owner."
