George Washington was hot favourite when beaten in Ireland |
The English 2,000 Guineas winner George Washington is a doubt for Royal Ascot after being found to be lame following his defeat in the Irish Guineas. It was first thought the son of Danehill was fine after the two-length loss to Araafa at the Curragh.
But he was found to be slightly lame when he trotted out on Monday morning.
A rematch against Araafa in next month's St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot is now in jeopardy.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien discovered the brilliant Newmarket Guineas winner has pulled muscles over a hip.
"It will be a few days before we know how long it will be before he can run again. Plans for him are on hold," O'Brien told the Racing Post.
