Moscow sets impressive standard

FRIDAY REVIEW

It may sound pretentious but watching Moscow Flyer at Aintree on Friday was a real privilege. I'm sure people felt the same in the Desert Orchid era.

Normally, if you are frightened watching a race, it's because you've had too much money on.

But with Moscow Flyer, it's like writing a script for a film and you just don't want anything to go wrong.

He pulled a bit at the beginning of the race but other than that his run at Aintree was simplicity itself. I thought it was absolutely stunning.

Not long ago, there was talk of him retiring but surely he can't while he is running so well. He's 11 years old but he runs like he's seven.

His win was the highlight of what was a good day for the Irish.

We had an Irish winner of the Topham in Cregg House and Like-A-Butterfly and Asian Maze also won - are we being told something ahead of Saturday?

There is a decent Irish challenge for the Grand National and they will be exceptionally confident of winning it for the fourth time since 1999, especially coming on the back of an excellent Cheltenham.

Cornelius Lysaght began the second day of the Aintree meeting in sparkling form, tipping the first three winners.

Like-A-Butterfly won the opening race at 6-1, Mighty Man obliged in the second at 3-1 before 4-9 favourite Moscow Flyer won the third.
