Trainer Martin Brassil struck lucky with his first runner in the Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National as Numbersixvalverde won at Fairyhouse. The nine-year-old joint second favourite beat Jack High in a thrilling finish to the marathon contest over three miles and five furlongs.
Ruby Walsh brought the 9-1 winner to the front after the last, denying Jack High, trained by his father Ted.
Last year's runner-up Marcus Du Berlais was third with Howaya Pet in fourth.
The winning horse is named after owner Bernard Carroll's home in Portugal.
Turning for home it looked as though Kymandjen was going to land a heroic pillar-to-post success.
But John Cullen's mount weakened as the challengers stacked up behind him, and he lost the lead at the second-last.
Jack High then looked booked for success as he took the advantage.
But Thyestes Chase winner Numbersixvalverde dug deep, running on too strongly for his 25 rivals.
What Odds was sent off the 8-1 favourite, but despite being handy throughout did not play a hand in the finish.
