Goodricke, ridden by Jamie Spencer, led in a sprint finish to win the William Hill Sprint Cup at Haydock by a length. Spencer's mount took the lead with a furlong to go and the 14-1 chance held off the challenge of La Cucaracha.
Ashdown Express (50-1) was third, a further length back but favourite Proclamation was a huge disappointment.
"I didn't really believe I could win the race and I thought he would run
really well to be placed," admitted Spencer afterwards.
