Moscow Flyer wins Tingle Creek
Moscow Flyer
Moscow Flyer sensationally beat off rival Azertyuiop to win Saturday's epic William Hill Tingle Creek Trophy at Sandown for the second year running.

Cenkos was the early leader but the Jessica Harrington-trained Moscow Flyer jumped to the front at the last of the railway fences and never looked back.

Azertyuiop looked set to challenge but the Barry Geraghty-ridden Flyer held on to win by a length-and-a-half.

Well Chief came in a close third for trainer Martin Pipe.

Moscow Flyer has never been beaten in chases he has completed. It was the 23rd victory of the 10-year-old's career, bringing his total winnings up to 875,561.

Cenkos, who won this race in 2002, led into the back straight with Geraghty sitting second and Ruby Walsh aboard Azertyuiop in third.

Walsh kept Moscow Flyer in his sights over the railway fences and looked to be travelling the best over the pond fence, but the pair could not get to the winner - who is now unbeaten in his 16 completed jumps starts.

"He missed the third last completely but nothing was going to get past him," said Geraghty.

"That's what he's like, he just takes his chance and that what makes him great.

"He was looking round having a laugh. He gave me a better feel in that race than ever before, he was really fit and fresh.

"It's a great thing to have a horse like him, I'm sick saying 'he's the man', but he is."

Trainer Harrington did not rule out running Moscow Flyer in the three-mile King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

"No decision has been made, We'll just see what happens, it would be nice maybe - but the horse comes first and we will take him where he can do his best," she said.

The horse is also favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham next year - only two horses, Flagship Uberalles and Viking Flagship, have completed the double in the same season.

Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh enjoyed some compensation for the defeat of Azertyuiop by taking the William Hill Handicap Hurdle with Monte Cinto.

The four-year-old is on a roll and was securing a hat-trick of wins with a length-and-a-half defeat of Winsley with the pair a country mile clear.

Outsiders Dangerously Good and Croix Du Guerre filled the places.

Manx Royal, all the rage ante-post and again on-course, held every chance but finished exhausted back in the field.

Contraband came out best in the Sodexho Prestige Henry VIII Novice Chase.

Martin Pipe's gelding rallied well after losing his pitch at the Railway fences and regained the lead on the approach to the last.

He scooted away up the hill from The Last Cast with favourite Made In Japan a little disappointing back in third.

Contraband was immediately clipped to 10-1 second favourite (from 20-1) behind doubtful runner Fundamentalist (5-1) with William Hill for the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham.
