 Pipe won his 14th trainer's title in 2004 |
Champion trainer Martin Pipe has confirmed that he will not have a stable jockey this season. The position of retained rider to Pipe's Somerset yard has been empty since champion jockey Tony McCoy left for Jonjo O'Neill's yard last month.
Pipe's leading owner David Johnson revealed earlier this week that he had signed Timmy Murphy on a retainer.
And although others among Pipe's owners are likely to also use Murphy, the trainer will also continue to use the other riders attached to his stable - Rodi Greene, Tom Scudamore and Jamie Moore.
"I'm delighted Mr Johnson has got Timmy Murphy," Pipe told the Racing Post on Thursday.
"He rides very well, he's no different from AP (McCoy). They both look after the horses."
Asked if he would employ a stable jockey, Pipe said: "It will be the same as before. Rodi Greene, Tom Scudamore and Jamie Moore have all been riding for us and continue to do so."
