Jonjo O'Neill
Jonjo O'Neill
Born: 13 April 1952
Started training: 1990
Base: Jackdaws Castle, Gloucestershire
Major victories: Stayers' Hurdle, Welsh National.
2003-04 wins: 102
2002-03 wins: 114
2001-02 wins: 113
One of the best ever jump jockeys, O'Neill is now having a big impact as a trainer.

In the saddle, the Irishman's greatest triumph was in partnership with Dawn Run, the only horse to have won both the Champion Hurdle and the Gold Cup.

Twice champion jockey, O'Neill retired with 885 winners and then came through a battle against cancer.

His first big winner as a trainer came with Gypsy Fiddler at Royal Ascot in 1990 but he now concentrates on the jumping game.

O'Neill's first decade as a trainer saw him based at Penrith in Cumbria but in 2001, one of main owners, JP McManus, installed him in Jackdaws Castle, a famous training establishment in Gloucestershire.

Things have really taken off since then and for the past three seasons, he has secured more than 100 winners.

And with champion jockey Tony McCoy now riding for the stable, O'Neill looks set to rise further still.
