Irish joy for Moscow Flyer
Moscow Flyer
Moscow Flyer proved its status as the best two-miler in Ireland
Hot favourite Moscow Flyer won the Betdaq.com Champion Chase at Punchestown to confirm his position as the best two-miler in Ireland.

The 4-11 shot, ridden by Barry Geraghty, led at the fourth-last fence and resisted the challenge of runner-up Rathgar Beau (12-1) by two lengths.

Strong Run came in third, with Native Upmanship back in fourth.

Moscow Flyer has never been beaten when completing a race over fences, and this was his 14th chase victory.

"That was a lovely finish to the season," said a delighted winning trainer Jessica Harrington.

"Barry said it was the nicest ride he has ever had from the horse in this country. They went a good gallop and he was just switched off."

It was Moscow Flyer's second win, following victory at Aintree's Grand National meeting, since his fall in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham.

The horse is now likely to be aimed at the King George VI Chase over three miles at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

"We now know he goes at a variety of trips," said Harrington.

"We'll start off in a two-mile race at Navan in November which he won last year, and the King George is a very real possibility. But that will be a bit of a finding-out exercise."

Also heading for the King George is Lord Sam, ridden by Jim Culloty and trained in Devon by Victor Dartnall, who claimed the Ellier Developments Novices Chase.

Lord Sam maintained his 100% record over fences, beating Hi Cloy by a head, to open the British account at the meeting.

Meanwhile Brave Inca, trained by Colm Murphy and ridden by Barry Cash, won the Evening Herald Champion Novice Hurdle.
