Dettori claims four victories
Frankie Dettori guides Echoes In Eternity to victory
Frankie Dettori thrilled his fans by clinching a stunning 179-1 four-timer for the Godolphin team on the opening day of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster.

The Italian followed up wins on Swan Nebula and Echoes in Eternity with successes on Librettist and Monsoon Rain.

Dettori celebrated his success on Monsoon Rain in the McKeever St Lawrence Conditions Stakes with his trademark flying dismount.

The 6-4 shot kept the 5-4 favourite Shannon Springs at bay by three-quarters of a length after an epic tussle in the closing stages of the mile contest.

Librettist, an even-money favourite, made all the running in the Thwaites Smooth Beer EBF Maiden Stakes and won by a length and a half from Embossed, with Camacho back in third.

The victory earned the Danzig colt a 16-1 quote for the 2000 Guineas.

Echoes In Eternity gave Dettori a great success in the Park Hill Stakes when the 5-1 shot ran strongly to beat 100-1 outsider Mazuna into second.

It was Godolphin's second win of the day after Swan Nebula's success in the opener.

The horse travelled well throughout on her first run over the one-mile six furlong trip and took the lead within the last furlong as the challenge of Bowstring disappeared.

Dettori kicked on and managed to hold off the challenge of his rivals for a well-earned win.

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "We've never tried her over anything more than a mile and a quarter so we were slightly guessing.

"But she's always looked a strong-galloping type and when we looked at the race we thought it was worth taking a chance."

Earlier, former Republic of Ireland and Sunderland striker Niall Quinn saw his horse Halmahera create history by recording a third successive win in the Portland Handicap.

The nine-year-old 11-1 chance, ridden by Neil Callan, came with a terrific late burst to land the sprint by a head from Texas Gold with Ptarmigan Ridge and Whistler third and fourth.
