Quinn splits with Cecil
Richard Quinn (left) talks to Henry Cecil (right)
Quinn and Cecil joined forces in 2000
Jockey Richard Quinn has ended his formal riding partnership with trainer Henry Cecil.

Quinn joined Cecil's Warren Place yard in 2000 but has decided not to renew his retainer for the new season.

The jockey cited the long journey from his Newbury home to Cecil's stables in Newmarket as the main reason for his unexpected decision.

"I will still ride for him but there will be no retainer," Quinn told the Racing Post.

Cecil has been champion trainer 10 times but his fortunes have dipped in recent seasons.

The move is likely to mean that Wille Ryan, who holds a retainer with Cecil, is likely to get more of the stable's rides.
