Philip Hobbs was named the year's leading National Hunt trainer at the 2003 Derby awards. The Somerset trainer enjoyed a brilliant 12 months, which included the Champion Hurdle victory of Rooster Booster at Cheltenham.
Sir Michael Stoute won the Flat award with Kieren Fallon named top jockey, and Tony McCoy landing the jump jockey honour at the awards, organised by the Horserace Writers and Photographers' Association.
The Clive Graham Trophy for Journalist of the Year was shared for the first time - between the BBC's Clare Balding and regional journalist Doug Moscrop of the Newcastle Journal.
