Her success has been founded on hard work and a solid apprenticeship during which she worked with both Martin Pipe and John Edwards.

She also had spells at training establishments in both the US and Australia.

In her younger days, Williams was an accomplished amateur jockey.

She rode in the 1988 Grand National, falling at Becher's Brook, but her career was abruptly cut short less than a fortnight later when she broke her neck in a fall at Worcester.

Williams is a shrewd judge of horses and seems to get the best out them, perhaps in part because she believes in giving them a lot of time out in the open air rather than cooping them up in stables.

Her most famous winner to date was the dashing grey Teeton Mill, who took both the King George VI Chase and the Hennessy.

The departure of regular jockey Norman Williamson and the absence of any real stable stars meant last season was fairly low-key for the Aramstone stable but the yard did send out its highest ever tally of winners.
