Grey Swallow has been installed as second favourite for next year's 2,000 Guineas after a fine victory in Ireland. The hot 4-9 favourite, trained by Dermot Weld, was an impressive winner of the Killavullen Stakes at Leopardstown.
Pat Smullen steered the grey to a cosy eight-length success in the Group Three contest over seven furlongs.
Aidan O'Brien's Newton, who made most of the running, stayed on for second place with Takrice third of the four runners.
Grey Swallow, now unbeaten in two starts, was initially cut to 12-1 from 14-1 for the 2000 Guineas by Ladbrokes, and later trimmed even further to 9-1.
O'Brien's One Cool Cat remains the clear ante-post favourite at 2-1.
