 | Millenary was running in blinkers for the first time |
Millenary won the Princess of Wales' Stakes for the second year in a row with a storming finish at Newmarket on Tuesday.
Millenary, running in blinkers for the first time, emerged from the pack with a couple of furlongs to go and cruised away to beat Bandari into second by one-and-a-half lengths.
Gamut was a length further back in third.
The six-year-old Millenary was running in blinkers after hanging badly in his last race and although he once again hung to the right it was not enough to affect the result.
"We thought we'd try blinkers to try and stop him doing that," said trainer John Dunlop.
"He even does it at home, it's his natural way of going. We thought it might do the trick and it did, rather surprisingly. He's a grand horse."
Millenary's odds for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes were cut after his impressive win.
Earlier, Attraction justified her odds-on favourite status as she easily won the Chippenham Lodge Stud Cherry Hinton Stakes.
For the first part of the race Attraction was boxed in but when a gap opened up on the rails with two furlongs to go the race was over.
Kevin Darley gave her her head and Attraction was clear of the field within a few strides, running on to win by five lengths.
"She moves brilliantly when she's asked to go," said trainer Mark Johnston.
"We didn't imagine there would be a wall in front of her, but it's great, I could never have imagined she would win that way and it opens up so many possibilities."
Pearl Grey was second, with Birthday Suit a length further back in third.
