Bradley banned for eight years
Graham Bradley
Bradley's hearing lasted three days
Former top jump jockey Graham Bradley has been banned for eight years for bringing racing into disrepute.

Bradley, who won the 1983 Cheltenham Gold Cup on Bregawn, was also fined 2,500 following a hearing of the Jockey Club's disciplinary committee in London on Friday.

In a short statement after the hearing Bradley announced his intention to appeal.

"I am obviously very, very, very disappointed. I will definitely appeal," he said.

The 42-year-old, who now works as bloodstock agent, had faced five charges, including passing on privileged information for monetary reward.

Bradley was also fined a further 400 for two breaches of entering the weighing room without permission.

  Graham Bradley
Born: 8/9/1960
First winner: Talon - 11/3/1980
Notable wins: Cheltenham Gold Cup 1983
Champion Hurdle 1996
Irish Grand National 1985
Final winner: Ontheboil - 13/11/1999

At the hearing, which lasted three days, Bradley was questioned over his self-confessed passing of privileged information and alleged relationship with suspected drugs smuggler Brian Wright.

The five charges Bradley faced were:

  • Whether he gave, or offered information about racehorses in return for money.

  • Whether he received proceeds from bets or gifts from persons other than the owner of the horse he was riding.

  • Whether he conspired with Brian Brendan Wright and/or Brian Anthony Wright and/or Paul Shannon to bring about the unwarranted abandonment of the 1987 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

  • Information he gave to the Licensing Committee at a meeting on 21 June, 1999, with regard to his relationship with Brian Brendan Wright.

  • If he entered the weighing rooms at Cheltenham and Newbury on several occasions without permission.

Bradley was cleared of the second charge but found guilty on three other counts, for which he was banned for eight years.

With regard to the third charge, he was cleared of the original breach of the rules.

But the committee then decided that by telling an untruth in his book he had brought racing into disrepute so he was fined 2,500.

The ban is due to start on 7 December, which allows Bradley a week for any appeal.
