Rock named Horse of the Year
Rock of Gibraltar wins the Prix du Moulin, his seventh Group One on the trot
Rock of Gibraltar has been retired to stud

Rock of Gibraltar capped his record-breaking season by being named Horse of the Year at the 12th Cartier Racing Awards.

The three-year-old colt, who has now been retired to stud, became the first horse to win seven consecutive Group One races.

Rock of Gibraltar, trained by Aidan O'Brien and co-owned by Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, also won the three-year-old colt prize.

Tony McCoy
McCoy broke numerous records last season

Ferguson was not present to accept his award but sent a message expressing his delight at what has been "a truly fantastic year".

Also honoured at the annual ceremony in London were owner Prince Khalid Abdullah and record-breaking jump jockey Tony McCoy.

Abdullah, one of the most successful owner/breeders in the world in the past two decades, was given the Daily Telegraph Award of Merit.

The Saudi prince is the only current owner to have owned and bred the winners of all five of the British Classics.

Tony McCoy's record-breaking 2001/02 season was recognised with the Cartier Special Award.

The 28-year-old became the most successful jump jockey of all time when he rode his 1,700th winner at Uttoxeter in August.

That came after he broke Sir Gordon Richards' long-standing record of 269 winners in a season.
