Ballingarry wins in Toronto
Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien had mixed fortunes over the weekend with Ballingary's Canadian success following Hawk Wing's surprise defeat at Ascot
O'Brien's Ballingarry won the Canadian International

Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien celebrated another Grade One success on Sunday as Ballingarry landed the Canadian International.

Ballingarry, ridden by Mick Kinane, had a four-length winning distance in the mile and a half race, the latest leg of the World Series.

As the field entered the straight Ballingarry forged ahead of his seven rivals at the Woodbine course in Toronto.

Favourite Falcon Flight gave chase passing Yavana's Pace in the straight but failed to make a dent in Ballingarry's advantage.

Ballingarry, third in the Irish Derby and St Leger, strode past the post to take 12 points in the World standings.

'Sit close'

It was some consolation for O'Brien following the defeat of hot favourite Hawk Wing in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Jockey Kinane admitted he was pleased with the way the race panned out.

"The plan was to make it or sit very close to the lead depending on the pace," said Kinane.

"I knew Yavana's Pace would want to lead so I sat in behind because I knew my horse could pick up the pace.

"As we entered the straight I said 'go on' and he ran on really well."
