The horses finished first and second respectively after a tremendous battle in last month's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes. Four-year-old Golan, who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute, heads a field of just seven for the mile and a quarter event on the Ebor meeting's opening day. Nayef is trained by the in-form Marcus Tregoning and may find the ground at York more to his liking. Stoute also runs No Excuse Needed, fourth behind Rock Of Gibraltar in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood last time out. Champion trainer Aidan O'Brien, whose Ebor meeting challenge has been hit by a bout of coughing in his yard, is sending Starbourne, who could be used as a pacemaker for Golan. Although Golan runs in the colours of the late Lord Weinstock, he will be sent to Coolmore Stud, to which O'Brien is attached, when he retires from racing. Godolphin will be represented by Group One-winning miler Noverre, who will be tackling the 10-furlong trip for the first time. The field is completed by David Elsworth's Indian Creek and Barry Hills' recent Curragh winner, Chancellor. |
