Mellow Park enters Oaks reckoning
Mellow Park won by 11 lengths in the Lupe Stakes.
Jockey Darryll Holland guides Mellow Park to victory
Mellow Park burst into the Vodafone Oaks picture with a runaway win at Goodwood on Wednesday.

The filly, an unfancied 10-1 shot after finishing fifth on her only previous start, trounced her five rivals in the Listed Victor Chandler Lupe Stakes.

She is now quoted as short as 12-1 for the Epsom Classic after showing a smart turn of speed to lead two furlongs out and then quicken well clear.

Mellow Park won by 11 lengths from 11-8 favourite Kootenay, who pipped Cozy Maria for second place.

"I expected her to put up a bold show but I didn't expect her to win like that," said winning trainer Jeremy Noseda.

Impressive

"But it is nice to get little surprises every now and again - I am delighted and thrilled.

"You couldn't ask her to do any more - it was a hugely impressive performance."

Noseda's Spinette finished second in the Musidora Stakes at York last week and the trainer - whose Kalypso Katie was second in the Classic last year - is planning to run both in the Oaks.

"They are the same sort of calibre as Kalypso Katie. And they will both go to Epsom," she said.

"Mellow Park has a fabulous pedigree as she is a full-sister to In The Wings.

"We've had a few problems getting her onto the track this year as she wasn't quite right early on and I am glad the owner's patience has been rewarded."

Mellow Park is offered at 12-1 for the Oaks by Coral but 16-1 by Ladbrokes.
