![]() | Chaparral on Epsom high ![]() High Chaparral is one of O'Brien's Classic-bound horses High Chaparral furthered his Vodafone Derby claims by romping to victory in Sunday's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown. The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was made to work hard but ended up a length's clear winner from In Time's Eye. Ashanabad was one-and-a-half lengths back in third. Pacemaker Nostradamus set off quickly and pulled some way clear until the rest of the field started to reel him in at about the three furlong marker. High Chaparral's jockey Seamus Heffernan had to urge his mount along from the home turn before hitting the final furlong. The highly-fancied Derby entry responded well and coasted to the front before being eased down 50 yards from the line to oblige at odds of 1-5. To cap a successful weekend for the Ballydoyle stable, O'Brien landed his second Classic in a week when Landseer won the French 2,000 Guineas at Longchamp on Sunday. O'Brien also prepared Sir Alex Ferguson's Rock of Gibraltar for victory in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket last Saturday. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Other top Horse Racing stories: Links to more Horse Racing stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
