![]() | Bandari streaks home ![]() Bandari does not hold an entry for the Epsom Derby Bandari scored an impressively easy victory in the Attheraces Derby Trial at Lingfield. The 11-4 shot, ridden by Kevin Darley, took over the running from Mahmool at the three-furlong marker and eased away from the rest of the field to win by 13 lengths, a record distance for the race. Long Goodbye won the four-way battle for second at 16-1 with the disappointing 13-8 favourite Wahchi in third. Bandari's trainer Mark Johnston has now scooped three of the major Derby trials this season but ironically none of the three winning colts are entered in the Epsom Classic. Plans uncertain The colt could be entered in the Derby but his owner would have to fork out the supplementary fee of 90,000 and Johnston, an outspoken critic of the entry system, believes it may not be worth paying. "This horse cost 44,000 guineas," he said. "It breaks my heart to say it because I am a fan of the Derby but I don't see why the owner should have to pay more than twice the purchase price to run at Epsom. "There are still numerous options for us for later in the season. We can go for the King George at Ascot or the Arc de Triomphe. | Other top Horse Racing stories: Links to more Horse Racing stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
