1505 BST: After the first three races of the day all 40 jockeys are fit and ready to compete in the Grand National.

2000 National winner Ruby Walsh warmed up with a win in the last race before the "big one".

1515: The weather in Liverpool is bright and sunny, the ground is firm and many are predicting a fast time. The record stands at eight minutes 47 seconds.

1525: The horses start parading round the paddock and the tension mounts as the jockeys file out of the weighing room.

1528: The jockeys get some last minute advice from their trainers before joining their mounts.

There is a flurry of activity in the market and Ad Hoc, Blowing Wind, Paris Pike and Beau are joint favourites on 10-1.

1533: All 40 runners and riders leave the paddock to make their way to the parade on the course in front of the stands.

Tony McCoy and Blowing Wind bring up the rear with Martin Pipe giving the champion-jockey elect a last minute pep-talk.

1537: Aintree stands for the National anthem ahead of a minute's silence in memory of the Queen Mother. The silence is impecably observed

1541: The horses parade in front of the packed main stands, walking through in single file.

Blowing Wind has taken sole possession of favouritism at 9-1.

1545: Horse number 40, Supreme Charm, is the last in the line before turning to join the other horses that have gone up to have a look at the first fence.

1547: The horses mill around at the start as the excitement and tension builds. Mick Fitzgerald and Ruby Walsh opt to dismount to take a little bit of the weight off their mounts.

1549: McCoy and Blowing Wind shorten again, coming in to 8-1. What's Up Boys is late mover in the market.

1551: Having spent five minutes circling and keeping warm the 40 horses move towards the starting tape to roars of approval from the punters in the stands.

1552:And they're off.

Across the Melling Road the field charge up to the first fence where eight fall, including top-weight Marlborough and the highly-fancied Paris Pike.

The Last Fling and Supreme Charm are the first to reach Becher's Brook where Alexander Banquet goes down.

At Valentine's The Last Fling is out on its own as the pace settles, but by the next, the 10th, Smarty has pulled up.

The Last Fling leads the field to the 13th fence, which all the remaining runners clear, but at the 14th fence Beau goes down.

Every horse clears the next, the biggest fence on the course - The Chair.

At the start of the second circuit 23 runners are still going.

The Last Fling still leads at the 17th fence with two loose horses for company.

The field compacts as they come to Becher's Brook for the second time Bindaree and Blowing Wind make up some ground. Majed's the only horse that comes down.

In the run-up to the Foinavon The Last Fling is passed and, at the fence, the long-time leader is out of the race having fallen.

The leaders all clear the 26th fence and Bindaree leads with only four more to jump.

Davids Lad and Ad Hoc both go at the third last - the 27th fence. Bindaree is racing four lengths clear as they round the corner back to the stands, but What's Up Boys is in close attendance.

The pair are in a two-horse race and they jump the last fence together with the loose Beau on the inside as well.

What's Up Boy is racing clear at The Elbow.

But having looked dead and buried, Bindaree storms up the finishing straight to take the win by one-and three-quarter lengths ahead of What's Up Boys.

Blowing Wind comes home third 27 lengths back, with Kingsmark taking fourth a further nine lengths behind.

In total there are 11 finishers.

Bindaree and Culloty come back to the winners' enclosure to huge cheers and the jockey is met by trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and the winning connections.
