The club said in a statement that Irish jockey Egan and Fradd of South Africa will not be able to race until 8 March.

Earlier this week, Egan and Fradd were among 19 people arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption in an operation codenamed 'Green Grass'.

The jockeys were arrested for allegedly taking bribes from illegal bookmakers in return for supplying racing information and fixing races.

The Jockey Club refused to comment on the case, but said it is taking "very seriously its responsibility to protect the interests of the racing public.

"We have always emphasised to our employees and those connected with racing not to be associated with activities that bring the good name of racing in Hong Kong into disrepute," said a statement.

Four jockey club members have also been suspended until further notice.

The remaining 13 people arrested are suspected of illegal bookmaking activities, an earlier ICAC statement said.

"It's the biggest swoop on alleged corruption in the hothouse world of Hong Kong racing since 1986," reports BBC Sport's racing correspondent Cornelius Lysaght.

"The commission has been looking into a myriad of claims centring on the fixing of races, bribery and gambling dens."

Egan, 33, had already been subject to a two-month suspension for giving what the club considered to be "misleading information" at a stewards inquiry.

Egan is currently 12th in the Hong Kong jockeys ranking with 12 winners this season.
