England were beaten 5-4 by Australia in Nottingham in the opening Test of a two-match series. The hosts went 2-0 down early on and failed to overturn the deficit as they constantly chased the game. Ashley Jackson scored a hat-trick of penalty corners but the world number two side and Olympic bronze medallists Australia held England at arm's length. Australia were reduced to 10 men when Jamie Dwyer clattered Barry Middleton but England failed to take advantage. "As a team it was up and down, there were good parts and bad parts," said Jackson. "Personally I thought I was rubbish today and three goals doesn't really cover it, I still feel really annoyed."
