Fordyce and Upcott (centre) celebrate winning the gold medal

Devon's Douglas Fordyce has won gold at the World Acrobatic Gymnastic Championships in Poland, alongside Edward Upcott in the men's pair.

Fordyce and Upcott clinched the title with a score of 28.662, beating the Russian pair [28.506] into second.

Great Britain also claimed gold in the men's four as they pushed China into second-place.

Adam Buckingham, Adam McAssey, Alex Uttley, Jonathan Stranks recorded a points total of 28.854.

Matei Todorov, the technical director for Great Britain's Acrobatic Gymnastics told the British Gymnastics website: "This is by far the best World Championships result achieved by our athletes since I was appointed 23 years ago, and is the best present I could have received before my retirement.

"The only dream I have left now, is to see acrobatic gymnastics included in the Olympic programme."

The delight of the win was shared by the team's coach, Neil Griffiths, who said: "I need time to digest what has happened to me and my gymnasts here in Wrozlaw.

"First Douglas and Edward won the men's title and then the two Adams, Alex and Jonathan followed in their footsteps, it's unbelievable."

There were further medals for Great Britain in the women's event in Poland, with a silver for the women's trio of Jennie Miller, Katherine Smith and Emma Walters, and a second silver in the overall Team event.

Last year, Fordyce, who is now 20, and 18-year-old Upcott won bronze in the men's pair at the World Games in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
