Stovold was not selected for the European Championships |
Horsham dressage rider Amy Stovold is targeting the final place in the Great Britain team for London 2012. The 33-year-old missed out on the four-person squad which won the European team title in Rotterdam last month. But Stovold told BBC Sussex: "I think there's probably about six of us fighting for the last place. "It's about being the best you possibly can be. If I train hard and get my scores up, then I don't see why I shouldn't be part of it." However Stovold will also need her horse, MacBrian, to be on top form to secure a place in Team GB. "I've had him for about five years and I've trained him myself," she continued. "He's probably got another two years at the top. "It's all about the harmony and the understanding between horse and rider." Stovold says taking part in July's Olympic test event at Greenwich Park has given her the drive to be involved in the real thing next year. "I was lucky enough to be part of the test event," she added. "It was an unbelievable experience. "It was well organised, and to have equestrianism in the heart of London itself will be incredible. "We'll have a great team for 2012. We've got three very good riders who will be able to pull out the stops."
