Hoy negotiates a fence at Badminton this May |
Australia's Andrew Hoy has a double chance in his bid for the Grand Slam at the Burghley Horse Trials. Hoy goes on reigning Badminton champion Moonfleet, the 2004 Burghley winner, as well as second string Mr Pracatan.
The 47-year-old triple Olympic gold medallist set up his Grand Slam with wins at the Rolex Kentucky and Badminton last spring.
Competition gets under way with the dressage event on Thursday and Friday with the cross-country on Saturday.
The show jumping takes place on Sunday.
Opposition to Hoy will come from defending Burghley champions William Fox-Pitt and Ballincoola, former team gold medallists Jeanette Brakewell and Over To You and British world team silver medallist Mary King on Cashel Bay.
