Local favourite Bettina Hoy leads the three-day eventing competition after the dressage at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. Hoy, riding Ringwood Cockatoo, had 36.50 penalty points to beat compatriot Ingrid Klimke (39.10) on Sleep Late.
Andreas Dibowski and Kimberely Severson were tied for third on 40.90.
Britain's Zara Phillips, riding Toy Town, was fifth with 41.70m, with William Fox-Pitt and Tamarillo in eighth on 45 penalty points.
