Fox-Pitt clung on for a narrow victory |
British rider William Fox-Pitt held his nerve on Ballincoola to win the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials on Sunday. Despite two late errors, he saw off Australia's dual Olympic team gold medallist Phillip Dutton and The Foreman to win the showjumping phase.
"The first mistake didn't worry me, but when the second came I knew I must ride him in the normal way, not start grabbing him," said Fox-Pitt.
New Zealander Andrew Nicholson finished in third place on Lord Killinghurst.
