Corringham Paralympian Danny Crates is pleased to have been named in the GB squad for this summer's Beijing games.

Crates took gold in the T46 800m event at Athens four years ago, but says it was still a relief to get the nod.

"I know that they know they can put their faith in me to prepare for championships well," he told BBC Essex.

"I have the experience and the results along the way to prove that, but it's still nice to get the confirmation because you never know."

The 35-year-old added: "You also never know if your event could be cancelled at a Paralympics because there are not enough participants.

"So it's always nice to get the nod and know that they still have the faith in you."

Despite his triumph in Athens and subsequent victories at European, World and World Cup events, Danny is not allowing himself to be complacent about taking another gold in China.

"Although I'm strong enough, fast enough and fit enough, I give a lot of praise for my competition as well," he added.

"When it comes to the final you've got seven guys thinking they can win it.

"Obviously on the day only one person is going to win it - but if you raced two hours later there could be a different finishing line-up.

"It's just that one moment in time when it goes right for you."
