Northern Ireland athlete Sally Brown has clinched a bronze medal at the International Paralympic Committee World Championships in New Zealand.

On her international senior debut, Brown, who competes for the North West-based Springwell Club, clocked 26.38 to win bronze in the T46 200 metres.

"I can't believe it," said Brown - the sole Northern Ireland member of the British team.

Michael McKillop is fancied to win double gold for Ireland in New Zealand.

Glengormley man McKillop, who took Paralympic gold in Beijing two years ago, begins his challenge on Wednesday and he will be competing in the 800m and 1500m.

Brown, who was born missing her left hand and part of her arm, is one of the youngest members of the British squad at only 15-years-old.

"My goal was to get to the final and to PB and I did both, but when I came off the bend I thought, "Oh no, I'm going to come last"," said Brown.

"But I focused on the fact that I'd gone into the final as fourth fastest and that gave me confidence. I don't think it's really sunk in yet."

Brown's bronze continued a great second day of competition for Britain after Katrina Hart and David Weir clinched gold medals in Christchurch.
