Norfolk has been out of action for the last five months

Paralympic champion Peter Norfolk warmed up for this week's quad singles event at Flushing Meadows with victory in the US Open USTA event in St Louis.

Norfolk, in his first tournament since April following the birth of daughter Evie, beat top seed David Wagner 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (3-7) 6-2.

It was his 18th major singles title on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis tour.

He will now head to New York for the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, which begins on Thursday.

The Briton, who competes in the division for players who have a disability in three or more limbs and plays with his racket taped to his hand, had lost to Wagner in the final of April's Florida Open but he showed his power to come from 4-2 down in the opening set.

He lost his focus in he second set, relinquishing a 4-0 lead and serving a double fault on set point in a second successive tie-break.

But he established a 5-2 lead in the decider before squeezing a backhand slice down the line to wrap up his first title in the event since 2006 and his fifth overall

"I'm absolutely delighted to win on my comeback" he said.

"It was always going to be extremely tough and David made it tough, as I expected, in a high-quality match.

"I lost my way in the second set but was pleased with the way I got back on track for the final set and I'm now looking forward to playing in New York, where I hope I can go on and defend my title."
