Stone and Storey celebrate their gold medals in Baie-Comeau

Britain's Sarah Storey has won the time trial at the UCI World Paracycling Road Championships for a second time.

The 32-year-old Paralympic champion clocked a time of 33 minutes 36 seconds to beat Poland's Anna Harkowska in the 22.8km race and retain her crown.

"I'm really pleased to have won again," said Storey. "I wanted to pace my ride really well and finish strong."

GB's David Stone won the 11.4km T2 individual time trial and Rachel Morris triumphed in the women's handbike H3.

Storey, who won five Paralympic swimming gold medals as Sarah Bailey in 1992 and 1996, gained two more golds at Beijing two years ago as a cyclist.

The Manchester-born rider was competing in the new C5 class for athletes with minimum impairments in Canada.

She added: "It was a really good course, with a good section of climbs with the downhill today slightly tougher with the headwind. The preparation I've had this year has been fantastic and am looking forward to riding in the rainbow jersey for another year."

Stone eased home by 43 seconds ahead of Italy's Giorgio Farroni in a time of 21mins 06.91secs in Baie-Comeau to gain GB's second gold of the day.

"I was quite nervous before the start of the race which made me focus on the ride," said Stone. "It means a lot to win the world time trial champs and I'm now looking forward to the road race."

Morris, who emerged victorious by more than two minutes in a time of 23mins 34.71secs, added: "I've finally got one of these white Rainbow jerseys - fantastic.

"That was certainly one of the hardest handcycling courses I have ever ridden and I was surprised how big the time gap was at the finish."

GB's Karen Darke marked her debut at the Championships by finishing fourth in the 11.4km H2 women's time trial.
